  • Recently spotted evidence suggests that Android 12’s rumored theming system could apply to the Google Assistant theme.
  • Theoretically, this would allow the colors of the Google Assistant interface to match the color scheme of your phone.
  • If this is true, we’ll likely get confirmation of it next week at Google I/O 2021.

A prevalent rumor surrounding Android 12 is native theming support. In theory, the operating system would pull colors from your wallpaper and then automatically theme the rest of the system with complementary colors. However, just how far would this theming system go?

Evidence now suggests that it could even affect the Google Assistant theme. According to a tipster sharing with XDA-Developers, they spotted their Assistant interface with wildly different colorizations. Unfortunately, the folks at XDA were not able to reproduce the colorizations for themselves. Still, this evidence does rack up with other information we already know about Android 12.

Obviously, that green coloring for the third Google Assistant theme doesn’t even come close to being complementary to the wallpaper coloring. It’s possible the theming element wasn’t working correctly or there was some other bug.

Elsewhere the screenshots shared with XDA also show off the rumored “My Actions” feature. This would be a more easily accessible version of Routines, which are already readily accessible in Assistant. However, the rumored My Actions feature wouldn’t likely be tied to Android 12 specifically. It would probably just roll out to everyone with an Assistant-capable device.

Regardless, we will likely learn a lot about the ability to change the Google Assistant theme next week during Google I/O. Stay tuned!
