  • Sony has launched the Xperia 10 III alongside its new flagships.
  • The new mid-range phone offers 5G connectivity and a bigger battery.
  • You’re still getting water resistance and a versatile triple camera combo though.

Update, May 12, 2021 (04:31 PM ET): When Sony revealed its slate of new smartphones, including the Sony Xperia 10 III, it didn’t reveal much info related to pricing. Finally, we at least have the European price of the phone today. The 10 III will set you back €429 (~$518). It comes in four colors (black, blue, pink, white), but color availability will vary by region.

Pre-orders for the device are open now in Europe. To find out more info, visit your regional version of the Sony website and search there for availability.

There is still no word on US pricing or availability for this phone, nor is there information on when it will actually ship in any country. Classic Sony.

Original article, April 14, 2021 (05:15 AM ET): Sony launched the Xperia 10 II last year, and it looked like a rather interesting proposition on paper. A mid-range phone with water resistance and a flexible triple camera setup (featuring a telephoto lens), it certainly made for one of the more intriguing devices on the market.

Now, Sony is following up on this device with the Xperia 10 III, bringing some of these same features while also offering a few notable upgrades. The new phone packs some solid core specifications, featuring a squarely mid-range Snapdragon 690 5G processor, 6-inch FHD+ OLED screen (21:9, 60Hz), 6GB of RAM, and 128GB of expandable storage.

We also get a bigger battery to go with the 5G connectivity, as the new device packs the same 4,500mAh battery seen in the newly announced Xperia 1 III and 5 III (an increase of 900mAh over the 10 II). You’re also getting 30W charging speeds seen with the new flagships, but this unfortunately requires a separate purchase.

Switching to the photography arena, the Sony Xperia 10 III serves up a triple rear camera setup that’s largely identical to last year’s Sony device. That means you’ve got a 12MP main camera (albeit with a wider f/1.8 aperture), an 8MP ultra-wide camera with a 120 degree field of view, and an 8MP 2X telephoto sensor. An 8MP camera in the top bezel handles your selfies.

Other notable features include IP65/68 water resistance, a 3.5mm port, LDAC and aptX HD support, a side fingerprint scanner, and Android 11.

The Sony Xperia 10 III is scheduled to launch in early summer, according to the Japanese manufacturer. Sony didn’t reveal pricing, but last year’s phone launched at €369 (~$442) in Europe, so we’d expect a similar price point for the new phone.
