- Oppo is presenting a camera-themed event on August 19.
- It could be related to new under-display selfie technology.
- It’s not clear which phones any new tech would go into.
Smartphone maker Oppo is hosting a mysterious camera-themed event on August 19 at 8:00 AM UTC, or 4:00 AM ET.
An email invite shared by GSMArena features only the text “The Future of Imaging, Today” and a close-up of a lens. Oppo India’s VP and Head of R&D, Tasleem Arif, took to Twitter to promise something that could “transform your camera experience forever,” but without offering any further details.
The event could be related to an announcement earlier this month revealing an improved under-display selfie camera. Regardless of brand, such cameras have often had poor photo quality due to screen interference, as well as lower pixel density in the space over the lens. Oppo’s solution involves a mix of hardware and AI, the latter automatically fixing problems like diffraction.
Hey #OPPOHumans we are working on something exciting to transform your camera experience forever
Interested to know how I wish I could tell you more, but I am bound by embargo..

Since the company didn’t mention specific products at the time, Oppo could be using August 19 to showcase phones with the selfie tech. It only recently released the Find X3 Pro and Reno 6 Pro, however, so a new camera would probably have to wait a while or go into one of the company’s other lines, maybe even a non-concept version of its Oppo X rollable.
Oppo could of course be planning to talk about primary cameras or other imaging technology instead. Smartphone makers are racing against each other in a variety of arenas, such as zoom, night shooting, and the number of cameras they offer. The Find X3 Pro has five cameras in total, including even a dedicated macro option.
