- The Samsung Galaxy S21 FE has made an appearance on the Bluetooth SIG website.
- The device appears alongside Samsung’s new foldables.
- Does this suggest that the original plan was to launch the S21 FE at Unpacked?
We’ve known for a while now that Samsung is working on the Galaxy S21 FE, coming as a sequel to the beloved Galaxy S20 FE flagship. Now, Samsung’s upcoming smartphone has surfaced online via the Bluetooth SIG website.
The Galaxy S21 FE appeared on the Bluetooth SIG website in two separate filings, with both filings specifically mentioning the S21 FE name and SM-G990 model number. The filings also mention Bluetooth 5.0 support. This doesn’t seem to be an error, as Samsung’s latest foldables are indeed listed with their correct Bluetooth versions.
Otherwise, one of the filings also seems to confirm a dual-SIM variant, owing to the “SM-G990B_DS” model number. Samsung generally uses the “DS” suffix to refer to dual-SIM variants.
There isn’t much else to glean from the listings, but one particularly interesting tidbit is that the S21 FE filing was made at the same time as the Galaxy Z Fold 3, Galaxy Z Flip 3, and Galaxy Watch 4 series. This perhaps suggests that the original plan may have been to launch the Galaxy S21 FE at the August 11 Unpacked event alongside the foldables.
It is possible that the timing of the FE’s filing has little to do with its launch date, original or otherwise. But it’s common to see devices surface together on Bluetooth SIG if they’re launched at the same event (e.g. the S21 series, the Poco F3 Pro and X3 Pro).
Reports out of Korea claim that the upcoming phone was actually delayed by Samsung due to marketing reasons or production issues. But the accidental appearance of the phone on Samsung’s official Instagram account does perhaps suggest that its release can’t be far away now.
